Well, so much for that. As is usually the case, I posted the problem and found the solution immediately. Just needed to explicitly set the LFXTOFF flag (line 11), because otherwise the LFXT is marked as always in fault even though the startup timer is disabled. It'd still be great if TI can update their example code to actually set the crystal frequency (also line 11 above), as it's currently not quite right.
