Dear Sean: To answer your question about what SPI port pins I was using for the SPI clock, I was using Port 2, Bit 7 (P2.7) and Port 3, Bit 2 (P3.2). I took your advice and I checked the GPIO pins on both of these ports and I discovered that both port pin GPIO functions were not operational. I am in the process of determining how many other GPIO port pins are not operational on this Launchpad. I am very surprised by these findings. I realize that finding the source of the problem may be difficult. I may have written over some critical areas of FLASH memory and to determine if the MSP430F Launchpad is failing due to firmware/software, or hardware failure, I would like to re-flash the device to set it in a "new" - just out of the box - state. I have recently received a new MSP430F Launchpad direct from TI and I would like to extract all the contents of its memory ( that are related to the launchpad's functionality ) and download them into the failing MSP430F. Can you tell me if this is working solution and, if it is not a working solution, can you please tell me the potential problems that I may encounter. Again, I would like to thank you for your technical support and I look forward to reading your reply.
