Hi Nick, I'm a little confused about your comments regarding the MSP430. MSP430 MCUs have either a FLASH or FRAM non-volatile memory (maintains contents when power off) that stores the executable code and uses SRAM as temporary data storage, such as program variables. A user develops code, then programs the FLASH or FRAM memory. Every time the device powers up, the code runs. There is no reason to "bootload" the device as with other MCUs that only operate with SRAM for both program and data storage. All MSP430 MCUs can operate without the use of computer so I'm curious what is misleading you? Have you been to MSP430 product page ? You can learn all about the various MSP430 devices and development tools.
